[Bio: Vash the Stampede is a lone gunman on Planet Gunsmoke. He is the first person ever to be considered a human disaster. Ironically, he loves peace and is a huge flirt, and tries to bring the message of "LOVE AND PEACE" to wherever he goes on planet Gunsmoke.

He has a mysterious past, fueled by rumors of the people on Gunsmoke. Vash is in fact not a human, but a human-like "Plant", a source of power and energy on the planet. As a Plant, he doesn't age (he is 131 years old) and his right arm can transform into an amazingly destructive weapon called an "Angel Arm." This weapon is powerful enough to destroy entire cities with a single blast, but Vash fears its potental for destruction and knows little about how to use it. Vash was born on a Colony Ship, along with his brother Knives, while the fleet was still flying. Rem Saverem took care of these children, and watched them mature to the seeming age of 12 in a single year. The children eventually learn that one other child had been born previously, and that she had been the subject of experiments which eventually killed her. Rem assures the two that she intends to protect them; Vash believes her, but Knives becomes angered with all humanity. Knives caused the great fall, by sabotaging the fleet's guidance system. Rem sacrificed herself to counteract Knives' tampering; this is the only reason that anyone survived the crash. Vash and Knives reach the surface safely in an escape pod, and Vash quickly learns that Knives caused the crash. Knives believes that humans are filth, worthy of complete destruction; Vash refuses to believe this, and refuses to allow Knives to just kill people. Thus the two are separated. While they are apart, Knives learns that as a plant, he has access to an enormous amount of power. In his case, this power manifests itself in the ability to reshape his left arm into arrays of blades. When he meets Vash again, this power easily gives him the upper hand, and he forces Vash to activate his own powers. Vash's power manifests itself as a cannon as the two struggle, Vash puts this gun to Knives' chest and fires. The blast consumes the city around them.

Somehow Knives survives, due to the help of a doctor and his plant DNA. Vash continued to wander the planet, the bounty now on his head, looking for Knives. He didn't know when he'd meet Knives, but knew if he did nothing, the entire human race would soon die. It was towards this point where he met Meryl Strife and Milly Thompson; Insurance girls who were assigned to watch Vash, to make sure he did not destroy more property that their company would be responsible for. Later on, he meets Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who becomes a good friend to Vash, but also picks up on Vash's inner sadness very quickly.

Vash is a very interesting character. He is a man who appears to be constantly happy. He has a positive attitude towards all, his happy characteristics are exaggerated to hide from people how he really feels. Inwardly, his emotions are a conflict of violent anger, pain, and a sincere wish for peace on the world. It is noted by other characters that his smile is empty. But to most, he is extremely joyful and dorky. He's a bit girl-obsessed, and flirts with most girls he meets. He may appear to be a brainless idiot, but he's really quite intelligent, with hyper reflexes beyond any other human being. He is very complex, and one would almost say he has two personalities, the happy idiot and the unstoppable warrior. ]
